Jean Baptiste Auvray spent his childhood in his father’s workshop, playing with materials while his father worked as an upholstery craftsman. These years of experimentation fostered his love for creation and steered him toward applied arts.
In 2000, he earned a DNSEP (National Diploma of Higher Education in Art) from the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Reims, graduating with honors. From 2000 to 2010, he collaborated with designer Patrick Jouin, creating interior architecture projects, industrial design, and furniture for Jouin’s agency. In 2010, Jean Baptiste Auvray founded the Agence Auvray in Paris and Annecy, which became the agency Faire in 2018. The goal of Faire is to combine the most demanding craftsmanship with a sensitive design approach rooted in the relationship between material and human experience.
The Faire agency designs objects, furniture, interior architecture, exhibitions, and scenographies. Its clients include luxury houses (Chanel, Piaget, Van Cleef & Arpels, etc.), mass distribution (Sherpa), restaurateurs, hotel groups, and furniture publishers (Fermob, Fly, Ego Paris). One of the key strengths of the Faire agency is its ability to identify the materiality and craftsmanship that will bring a concept to life. This requires maintaining a network of exceptional artisans ready to take on challenges.
Jean Baptiste Auvray is a designer, interior architect, and scenographer working between Paris and Annecy. Attentive to his clients, he can sense and interpret the image of brands, major houses, or an individual’s personality, both in object design and space design. He has experience in designing large-scale architectures as well as published objects, making him comfortable with every scale of a project, from the overall vision to the smallest detail.
He understands and respects artisans and their work. With them, he reinterprets traditional applications of craftsmanship, turning this vision into an effective creative lever. Jean Baptiste Auvray is thus regularly involved in the artistic direction of the brands he collaborates with.
“The greatest part of the emotion felt in front of a place or an object comes from the materiality that composes it, from the perception of the human hand that creates the material. My design listens to the understanding of the artisan’s gesture, in order to elevate this emotion.”
