Héritages is both an exhibition and a collection of contemporary seating pieces designed from the structure of antique chairs. The pieces presented in the exhibition are built on armchairs and chairs ranging from the Louis XV period to the Art Deco era.
After being stripped back, these skeletal frames, with their distinctive shapes, lend specific forms to the new designs. Jean-Baptiste Auvray uses this constraint as a creative framework to develop a collection of striking and unexpected volumes.

This collection explores the idea of heritage. It speaks of the furniture we inherit, that we would like to keep out of affection, but not necessarily in its traditional form. It allows for a reinterpretation through contemporary codes.
It also addresses the heritage of materials. It proposes a sustainable approach in response to the vast number of existing pieces of furniture that are durable and solid, yet discarded because they are considered aesthetically obsolete. With a thoughtfully conceived design and the expertise of a skilled craftsman, they can continue to live on for a long time.
From May 3 to 8, 2017 at the Grand Palais, Paris.
During Révélations tradeshow, Jean Baptiste Auvray and Van Cleef & Arpels gave to the Robert Four – Aubusson gallery a sample of the “Nuages” tapestries created by the designer for the high jewellery Maison of the Place Vendôme.
