From May 21 to 26, 2019 at the Galerie Le Molière, Paris.
Héritages is an exhibition as well as a collection of contemporary seating furniture designed on the basis of antique chairs. The furniture in the exhibition is based on armchairs and chairs from the Louis XV to the Art Deco period.
After being undressed, these skeletons, by their characteristic shape, bring specific forms to the furniture. Jean Baptiste Auvray uses this constraint to create a collection with astonishing volumes.
This collection is about legacies. That of the furniture that we receive, that we would like to keep out of affection, but not in its classic configuration. It allows re-appropriation through contemporary codes.
It is also about inheritance of materials, a sustainable approach to furniture that is present in very large numbers, durable, solid, and that is thrown away because it is aesthetically obsolete. With a simple, well thought-out design and a competent craftsman, they can continue to live, for a long time.
